Brian Hartley is a Glasgow based multi-disciplinary artist, whose work integrates design, performance and visual art. His initial work was a visual exploration of the moving body through drawing and painting, developing into work as a performer, and designer for dance and theatre companies including Derevo, Retina Dance Company, Tabula Rasa Dance Company, Oceanallover, Starcatchers and many Scottish Theatre companies. His work is presented both as a freelance artist and also through his company stillmotion.
In 2008 he was commissioned by Imaginate to create a large scale participatory dance event for early years, We Dance, wee groove, has continued to evolve since then with extensive performances across Scotland, returning to the Imaginate Festival in 2010, and children’s festivals in Canada in 2011.
We Dance, wee groove builds on a wider body of work with children, and in particular early years, integrating visual art, photography and movement.
